Rigid endoscopes are the oldest type on the market. They are used in the majority of surgical endoscopic applications and enable endoscopists to visualize the surface of organs, their vessels, or pathological changes without large incisions of the body and delivering a view even more clear than with the naked eye. The main design criteria are the viewing angle, depth-of-field, magnification, image brightness, image quality, distortion, and image size, which have to be appropriately balanced. Rigid endoscopes are commonly used in minimally invasive surgical procedures like rhinoscopy (nose), cystoscopy (urinary bladder), and laparoscopy (abdomen). Rigid endoscopes are made of metal tubes which contain the lenses, and the light channel(s) and are available in a large range of external diameters, from 1 to 12 mm. Commonly, rigid endoscopes have a series of high-resolution optical glass rod lenses. The endoscopes can be forward viewing (0 degrees) or angled (10–120 degrees) to allow visualization out of the axis of the telescope and increase the FOV by rotating the instrument. The optical quality of lens-generated images of rigid endoscopes still surpasses that of the fiber-optic or digital images produced by flexible scopes. There are many types of procedures where Rigid scopes are used ( Anoscopy, Arthroscopy, Bronchoscopy, Cystoscopy, Esophagoscopy, Laparoscopy, Laryngoscopy, Neuroendoscopy, Proctoscopy, Thoracoscopy ) and there are many different types of Rigid scopes for example: The rigid Laparoscope is a three in one device replacing the telescope, light source and camera combining them into a single low- cost device. The rigid nasal endoscope is a small instrument, like a silver pencil with a light on the end, 4 millimeters or less in diameter and around 20cm long. With a range of angled lenses to see around corners, and a powerful fiberoptic light source, the surgeon gets detailed close-up views of the internal nose and sinuses. During knee arthroscopy, a surgeon uses an arthroscope, a tool about the width of a pencil with a camera and light attached, to view the inside of your knee joint. This allows the surgeon to examine the inside of the knee joint without making a large incision along the outside of the knee, as is done in open surgery. Rigid Bronchoscopy is a procedure used to gain access to the patient's airway and allows the passage of larger airway instruments and cameras to diagnose and treat airway disease. This form of bronchoscopy is done by highly trained specialists
